Calgary - Just chilling (actually baking)

Enjoyed a nice meal in the evening sun in a rooftop restaurant called Traders Bar last night. Unfortunately completely blowing the budget again... Until the waitress decided we had been waiting too long (in the sun, drinking beer!) for the food to arrive and promptly said "We'll take care of the food for you". Result, back on budget!

Taking it easy today after a busy couple of days :) Visted the olympic plaza where the medals were presented when Calgary hosted the Winter Olympics and Chinatown. Spent a nice morning walking around Princes Island in hot sunshine before heading to the Eau Claire market for some lovely food.

Calgary was less reminiscent of "The Omega Man" film today with a fair number of people wandering around enjoying the sun. We also found out about Plus 15 (called this because they are fifteen feet up). These are a warren of covered climate controlled passages that navigate most of downtown and pass through large department stores and shopping malls. None of which is visible to the casual visitor walking along the street on the pavement (sidewalk), giving the mistaken impression that the place is deserted.

Another nice thing about Calgary is how inexpensive most things are here. Food is particularly reasonable, and our hotel seems very well equipped for the price. About 60 pounds a night gets a nice King room with a balcony, bath, shower, satellite TV, free wireless internet (hence all the updates), large fitness room and heated rooftop pool. Wouldn't find that in UK.

Speaking of the pool, time to relax with a beer in the pool looking over the city, before heading off to somewhere new tomorrow.
