Vicky decided to book the next stage of our trip online last night, after seven hours online (thank god it was free) she had just booked two nights at a hotel! So we woke up in need of a nice hike to freshen up. We found a trail map and decided to follow a simple beginner trail to a reservoir only expected to take about an hour. We shall not mention who was in charge of the map, but about an hour and a half later we found ourselves on a small trail leading through the trees.
That's when we saw the sign above asking hikers to report any bear sightings...
Ok clearly off our beginner track but we kept walking and walking. Finally the claw marks on the trees, the trail closed signs and the sign with a picture of a bear saying "For the next 1km" on it freaked us out and we quickly retraced our route. Did I mention that we had long since gone off our trail map small area, oh yes and the GPS device we happen to have, yes we left that in the hotel so we didn't lose it!!!!! After a couple of hours we found the reservoir was actually only a 15 min walk from the start point. The water was a bright blue colour and in the distance we could see where it meets the brown and angry Bow River. The colours stay separate for quite a while which looks dramatic.
Off trail-riding and white water rafting tomorrow in cowboy country.
