Yachats - LeRoys for dinner

Woke up refreshed and raring to go, having slept off yesterdays travelling hell. Picked up the hire car with no problems. In fact there were no compact ones left so we got a free upgrade. Hold the excitement though, still no muscle car, just a red Toyota. Drove West from Portland passing through Salem until we got to the coast and then followed Highway 101 which just mirrors the coastline. Speed limits are back in mph, and still pretty low, so cruise control is great.
The further we drove the less populated the towns became, the one we are staying at, Yachats, has a population of just over 600 people. With the road following the coast on quite a long journey lots of the beach is completely empty, and even the busier parts are only a couple of people. Have a nice view of the sea from our room, which may explain the Tsunami warning signs everywhere and what to do in the event of an earthquake and Tsunami. Basically run uphill as fast as you can.

Heading over to LeRoys Blue Whale tonight for some food although Vicky fancied "Vickies Big Wheel Drive-In", prices here are very reasonable and much cheaper than anything we have seen so far on the trip. We passed a Walmart outside of Portland which was incredibly cheap and even had a barbecue set including grill pan, charcoal, stand etc for just USD6, about 3 pounds! So we are now on the lookout for a beach which allows barbecues, going to be very careful with forest fires still raging in California, we don't want the blame for one of them. Finally gasoline is even cheaper here, just 30pence a litre!
